VM Programmable Operator Automation Management Facilities

Historical Record of Improvement and Change

Date and the Description of Change

07-07-24 Updates for zVM v7.3.

05-07-21 PROPROLL (available with professional version): New I/O Handler and improved displays. Display recovery when suffering a logical or physical console terminal loss. Applied common cursor and command-line management. Reduced use of CPU resources.

04-05-21 PROPROLL (available with professional version):
will hold 12000 prior messages (up from 6400),
accommodates CMS Query commands for Logical Operator environment,
will execute accessible REXX scripts (experimental).

03-14-20 Remove reliance on CMS global variables. Change all automation to access and manipulate shared CP System VARiables. This move provides accessibility across virtual machine boundaries.

11-29-19 Reduce time to shutdown services and guests.
Accommodate real and virtual PROCESSOR CONTROLLER shutdown signal, when used.

11-04-19 Improve VM Shutdown sequences to recognize that all zLinux and "signalled' guests have posted down. Provide restart (REIPL) and only services shutdown options in the VMSHUT programming.

07-02-19 Same code operates on all supported versions of zVM (from 5.4 to 7.1).

10-18-18 Performance enhancements applied.

06-29-16 Save xMSG, WNG and xCONIO settings upon invocation and restore settings upon exit.

05-28-16 Simplify Operator sub-servers management routines. All Operator sub-servers share the A-disk of first sub-server in ReadOnly mode. Auto IPL improved to recognize more console states. The string scan utility SCANSTRG is now case-sensitive, including recalled variables.

04-17-16 Improvement for handling real console conditions during IPL. Resolved intermittent timing problems when releasing a real console. Smoother message traffic showing IPL and Shutdown milestones.

02-19-16 PROPROLL has been modified to show DMSxxxxx and HCPxxxxx messages in RED. PROPROLL has been upgraded to allow 6400 message traffic lines stored for scrolling, vs previous 3200 lines.

02-06-16 Same code operates on all supported versions of zVM (from 5.4 to 6.3). Will operate on prior versions, but not with support.

08-19-15 Improve handling of console I/O device return conditions. Improve interruption handling. PROPROLL module screen scrolling interface speedier. Countdown to new release.

01-02-15 Exit possible loop condition when return from WAKEUP facility returns code 32.

10-19-14 Provide non-blocking safety for PROP Action Routines. Perform a check to see if data is queued upon entry to Rule Action Routine; if non then exit immediately. If action routine is inadvertently called by other than a PROP rule then safety check will help prevent undesired action. Designate the Logical Operator as a global variable in PROP123H rule, so that can be queried by all other action routines and execs.

10-04-14 Check each hour on TCPIP stack. If not up and policy expects it to be up then autolog TCPIP. Disable check automation in event that network or system is desired to be down or in process of shutdown.

05-31-14 Provide command 'ROLL' to initiate autoscrolling console, like the PF9 Key, for handheld devices that may not offer PF9 Key.

04-02-14 Documentation update.

01-02-14 Correct line display for PROPROLL when toggling between message origin formats.

12-08-13 Release Professional version with asynchronous PROP delegated servers. Provide installation instructions for licensed Professional Version.

09-30-13 Implement request for operator confirmation during PROPROLL viewer exit processing.

09-16-13 Provide automatic refresh of filtered message objects. This will allow the user to view only the message traffic containing a particular string or origin machine.

08-15-13 Improve and simplify installation.

03-31-13 Increase performance of OPERLOG viewer.

11-02-12 Correct uninitialized defined constants in PROPROLL.

08-02-12 Document option to reserve sensitive code and execs in VMTOOLS 2192 disk.

06-17-12 Permit display of quick CP logo with QLOGO option. Filter out all whitespace that appear on display as """", to be changed to spaces.

02-29-12 Modify PROPROLL module to allow to toggle ON/OFF the virtual machine message origin. Most traffic have OPERATOR as its origin, so suppressing the origin information permits more line space for useful message text.

11-05-11 Document state management (STATEMGR) rules and execs. Document other tools available with facility.

10-29-11 Correct problem with console lines calculation following new day processing. Suppress reception of VM CP newday messaging. Ensure MSG=IUCV coming out of WAIT. Place clearer documentation in execs and doc.

06-14-11 Improve SCANSTRG exec to allow for CASE-SENSITIVE searching.

06-01-11 Show operational status on PROPROLL following IPL automation via event of logoff of AUTOLOG1 in DSC mode.

05-24-11 Set TIMEOUT to 2 seconds during RESOLVER phase for CPCLIENT

05-17-11 Permit passthru of options, ie. ROLL.

03-26-11 Introduce multi-threading exec use.

01-15-11 Allow OP commands to be directed to VM Operator from command line of OPERLOG when in static display (S). Results from OP command are returned and displayed upon refresh of screen (PF2).

01-05-11 Change right/return view shifting from right/left shift, so that timestamp and virtual machine id stay in place and remainder of message line is shifted. Now you can view full content of message.

12-14-10 Display CP Logo on startup. Provide option to suppress CP Logo OPERLOG (nologo

11-22-10 Implement ROLL on startup option with OPERLOG display. Implement subServer support for blocking tasks.

11-05-10 Update to Installation documentation

10-02-10 Make available to general VM community on a free basis.

01-15-1990 Concept first placed into service as a VM Systems Programmer's tool.
