VM Programmable Operator Automation Management Facilities

Features

The OPERLOG system was designed to augment, exploit and enhance IBM's zVM Programmable Operator Facility. The automation management system provides a set of REXX EXECs, macros, and programs that execute in the zVM OPERATOR virtual machine This programming consolidates and provides an easy-to-use focal point of operations, as well as freeing the operations personnel of managing the zVM Master Console and its message events.

The base system of OPERLOG will provide a central point of monitoring and control for the VM System. You can immediately realize the following benefits with the STANDARD base system:

The OPERLOG Refreshing Operation Viewing Consoles.
Automation of Message Events requiring intervention.
Multiple Remote Concurrent Console access.
Differentiated Message Filtering.
Time-of-Day Heartbeat Event Dispatching.
Time-of-Day Process Scheduling.
Automated archiving of Operator console logs.
Automate reaction to currently unpreventable problem events.
Eliminate need to login to service machine consoles to view message traffic.
Facilitate problem determination efforts.
Increase operation staff productivity.
Restrict sensitive focal point commands.
Immediate Retrieval of past days Operator console logging.
Reduced Operator intervention for zVM message events.
Realize multiple "sets of eyes" ensuring the wellness of zVM Operations.
OPERLOG isolated viewing of zLinux guest machines.
Operator machine is secured and run disconnected.

The PROFESSIONAL version is available for a nominal license fee. It provides all of the STANDARD features plus the following:

The PROPROLL smooth Rolling and Scrollable Logical Operator Console
Monitor changes in the running state of all main processes.
Aggressive message suppression of non-intervention message eventss.
Non-blocking multi-threaded automation task operation mode.
Delegation of work to non-blocking OPERSRVx subServer machines.
Offloading of long running tasks from main PROP Operator to subServer processors.
Forwarding of any command or exec to a subServer keeping main zVM PROP task ready-for-work.
Automated restart option.
Mechanized timed "Health Checking".
Superior throughput.

With some configuration effort you can realize other benefits such as:

Automated IPL of VM Service Machines and Guest Operating Platforms.
State management monitoring of selected Single Console Image Facility (SCIF) Servers.
Automated RECORDING processing such as: DISKACNT, MONITOR and OPERSYMP recording data.
Automated sequenced SHUTDOWN of all Service Machines and zGuest systems per your policy.
Management of Scheduled Processing requirements.
Message Event and Time-of-Day Process Scheduling.
Automated Alert Mechanism.
Security Filtration of Commands directed to the Operator Machine.
Logging of all command attempts, originator and responses in a single log.
Reducing the range of a necessary privilege classes assigned to an authorized operator.
Operational Message and Command Focal Point of Control.
Ensuring SYSTEM FORCED service machines are brought back to logged-on state.
Progress towards "unattended" zVM Operations.
