Obtain a trial copy of the product from us in the following
way:
Perform a direct download of the VM Archive file (VMARC) from our FTP Site.
Download
the product using your browser to either your LINUX, Windows or Apple computer.
The downloaded file will be in VMARC format.
(VM Archive format -- The VMARC utility and
instructions are available, at no charge, from
IBM's website)
Start the download by selecting the version for your zVM:
VMRSMZ for zVM v5.3 (deprecated)
VMRSMZ for zVM v6.2 (deprecated)
VMRSMZ for zVM v6.3 (deprecated)
This will download
VMRSMZxx.VMARC
,where xx represent the version numbers.
Next, upload the .VMARC file(s) to your CMS userid using one of the two methods below:
METHOD 1 (initiated on non-CMS platform such as Windows, Linux or Apple):
You
may use your FTP client (such as Filezilla or gFTP) to upload to your CMS userid using the
additional parameters to ensure that the transfer takes place in
BINARY. If you use this method then ensure that your CMS userid is logged off so that VM's
FTPSERVE can get write access to your A-Disk (virtual x'0191').
METHOD 2 (initiated from CMS):BINARY
BINARY
LOCSITE FIX 80
GET xxxxxxxx.VMARC (REPLACE
Now that the VMARC file has been moved to CMS, log on to your CMS userid and type the command:
FILELIST * VMARC A
xxxxxxxx VMARC A
Exit FILELIST.
For a first-time customer:
From the CMS command prompt run the VMARC file through the following pipeline command.
This will reblock the file to a logical record length of 80 and fixed record format.
(Note Pipelines is a standard part of VM/CMS. The default stage separator is the | character.
You are free to use any keyboard character not used otherwise in the command line itself )
We suggest piping the output to file ABC, as below, so that you don't overlay the original file.
Also note the > and < characters in the PIPE command are for reading from and writing to a file.
PIPE ( SEP | ) < VMRSMZxx VMARC A | FBLOCK 80 00 | > ABC VMARC A F 80
Next, unpack the resultant file using the VMARC facility.
VMARC UNPK ABC VMARC A (REPLACE
For the current customer:
Use the PIPEUNPK EXEC from prior product install.
PIPEUNPK VMRSMZnn VMARC A
This will generate the following files on your A-disk:
VMRSMZ EXEC
VMRSMZ MODULE
PIPEUNPK EXEC
If you have the VM privilege classes set for your userid, then you are now ready to run the monitor.
Issue the supplied CMS exec named
VMRSMZ
which will set the environment and then invoke the program module.
Now refer to our User's Guide.
